【高千穂峡】
大地の歴史を感じる美しき神秘の渓谷。太古の昔、阿蘇山の火山活動によって噴出した火砕流が冷え固まって侵食された断崖がそそり立つ。高い所で100m、平均80mの断崖が東西に約７㎞にわたって続いており、昭和９年には「五箇瀬川峡谷」として国の名勝・天然記念物に、昭和４０年には祖母傾国定公園の一部に指定されています。
　また、日本の滝百選に指定されている「真名井の滝」は、約17ｍの高さから水面に落ちる様は高千穂峡を象徴する風景です。 天孫降臨の際、この地に水がなかったので、 天村雲命が水種を移した「天真名井」から湧き出る水が水源の滝と伝えられています。滝を間近で感じる事が出来る「高千穂峡貸しボート」は国内外のお客様に人気のアクティビティです。

【Takachiho Gorge】
A beautiful, mysterious gorge where you can feel the history of the earth. Towering cliffs rise here, formed when pyroclastic flows erupted from Mount Aso's volcanic activity in ancient times cooled, solidified, and were eroded. These cliffs, reaching up to 100 meters high with an average height of 80 meters, stretch approximately seven kilometers from east to west. In 1934 (Showa 9), the area was designated a National Scenic Beauty and Natural Monument as the “Gokase River Gorge.” In 1965 (Showa 40), it became part of the Sobo-Kakei Quasi-National Park.
　Additionally, “Manai Falls,” designated as one of Japan's Top 100 Waterfalls, symbolizes the gorge with its water plunging approximately 17 meters to the surface. Legend holds that this waterfall originates from the “Heavenly Mana Well,” where Amatsumuragumo-no-Mikoto transplanted water seeds during the descent of the heavenly descendants, as water was scarce in this land. The “Takachiho Gorge Boat Rental,” offering a close-up experience of the waterfall, is a popular activity for visitors from Japan and abroad.
