概要 / Summary

「奄美布」とは大島紬の伝統を守るために大島紬の道具材料で別の生地を織る、というコンセプトの元、古い着物を裂いて紐状にしたものを大島紬の製造技術を用いて生地に織り直したサスティナブルな手織りの布地です。材料の糸も大島紬に使用される絹糸を使用しており、大島紬の高級感と、耐久性を併せ持っています。アパレル素材としてだけでなく、自動車メーカーがシートに採用したり、リゾートホテルが部屋の壁紙に採用するなど様々な可能性を秘めた素材です。

Amami Cloth is a sustainable handwoven fabric created under the concept of weaving a different fabric using Oshima Tsumugi tools and materials to preserve the tradition of Oshima Tsumugi. It involves cutting up old kimonos into strips and reweaving them into fabric using Oshima Tsumugi manufacturing techniques. The threads used are the same silk yarn employed in Oshima Tsumugi, giving it the same luxurious feel and durability. It holds potential beyond apparel, with applications ranging from automotive seat upholstery to wallpaper in resort hotels.
