概要 / Summary

戦後モダニズム建築の第一人者である坂倉順三は、1937（昭和12）年のパリ万国博覧会で日本館を設計、日本の伝統的建築の特長とモダニズムの理念を統合したということで、建築部門のグランプリを受賞しています。その坂倉が手がけた建物のひとつが三重県伊賀市にある「旧上野市庁舎」。
それは2025年、新たな目的のもとにリノベーションされました。中心市街地の活性化を実現すべく、市立図書館、観光案内や物販、カフェ、そしてホテルに。
経年を理由に有名建築物が取り壊されるケースが多い中、その理念を継承しつつも時代や地域ニーズに適応した姿に変えていくこと、更には図書館とホテルという斬新な融合を実現したこと。
泊船の19室は、それを体感する限られた空間です。

Junzo Sakakura, a leading figure in postwar modernist architecture, designed the Japanese Pavilion for the 1937 Paris Exposition. By integrating the characteristics of traditional Japanese architecture with modernist principles, he won the Grand Prix in the architecture category. One of the buildings designed by Sakakura is the Former Ueno City Hall in Iga City, Mie Prefecture.
It was renovated in 2025 for a new purpose. To revitalize the central city area, it now houses a municipal library, tourist information and retail, a café, and a hotel.
Amidst many cases where famous buildings are demolished due to age, this project preserves its original philosophy while adapting to contemporary and local needs. Furthermore, it achieves the innovative fusion of a library and a hotel.
The 19 guest rooms at Tomoshin offer a limited space to experience this transformation.

・コンクリートの大きな建物をスクラップすることなく、利活用する素晴らしいアイディアであると思った。
・市庁舎という多くの人々が行き交った場所がホテルという異なる用途で生まれ変わり、また多くの人々が訪れ、街のシンボルとして残り続けることに意味があると思う。

・I thought it was a brilliant idea to repurpose the large concrete building without scrapping it.
・I believe it's meaningful that the city hall, a place where many people once gathered, has been reborn for a different purpose as a hotel, continues to be visited by many, and remains as a symbol of the city.
