概要 / Summary

岡山県真庭市勝山は、江戸時代の面影を残す町並みに暖簾がたなびく「のれんの町」として知られています。1994年、染織家の加納容子氏が家業の傍ら制作した絞り染めの暖簾がまちの評判となり、有志の会が発足し、町並み保存地区の住民の要望に応える受注窓口となり、暖簾制作を続けて、30年になります。現在では、100軒あまりの色とりどりの暖簾が掛けられ、朝夕、暖簾を出し入れする人々の姿は勝山の風景の象徴となっています。
町並みに暮らす人々の思いを意匠に乗せて、一軒一軒オリジナルで染め上げられる暖簾は、旭川の川面に映える白壁の町並みと生活に溶け込んだアートとして、国内外から多くの人々を惹きつけています。

Katsuyama in Maniwa City, Okayama Prefecture, is known as the “Town of Noren” where shop curtains flutter along streets retaining the atmosphere of the Edo period. In 1994, noren made using shibori dyeing techniques by textile artist Yoko Kano, created alongside her family business, gained popularity in the town. This led to the formation of a volunteer group, which became a point of contact for orders, responding to requests from residents in the townscape preservation district. They have continued making noren for 30 years. Today, over 100 colorful noren hang throughout the town. The sight of people opening and closing these noren each morning and evening has become a symbol of Katsuyama's scenery.
Each noren, uniquely dyed to embody the sentiments of the townspeople living there, blends seamlessly into daily life as an art form. Reflected on the surface of the Asahigawa River, the white-walled townscape attracts many visitors from both Japan and abroad.

・木造古民家が立ち並ぶノスタルジックな街並みに、趣向を凝らしたのれんがかかる姿は写真を撮りたくなる景観と思う。
・それぞれのお店の特色を表すデザインののれんがかけられているそうで、入る前に想像してわくわくする。
・のれんは日本独自の文化と思う。作れるのなら作って持ち帰りたい。

・The nostalgic streetscape lined with old wooden houses, adorned with tastefully designed noren curtains, creates a scene you'll want to photograph.
・Each shop apparently has a noren reflecting its unique character, making you excited to imagine what lies inside before stepping in.
・Noren are a uniquely Japanese cultural element. If I could make one, I'd love to create one and bring it home.
